Fuel Saving, Money Saving and Energy Saving Tips

Everyone wants your money, don’t they? How can you keep more of it? Here are a few money saving tips to help you cope with the skyrocketing price of just about everything.
Fuel Saving Tips
- Do use the recommended type of diesel or petrol in your tank. Using another type or octane is just asking for trouble!
- Slow down, driving too fast is a waste of fuel. Anything over about 95kph and you’ll notice a rapid decrease in your mileage.
- Keep your tyre pressure at the correct level. Under inflated tyres have more contact with the road and slow you down. Over inflated tyres are more likely to burst and having to replace them will more than offset any fuel savings. So keep your tyres at the correct pressure, not above or below.
Money Saving Tips
- Clip coupons. Don’t buy something you normally wouldn’t, just because there’s an offer available, but do keep an eye out for coupons on things you normally purchase.
- Buy in bulk. If you find a sale on toilet paper or rice or something that will keep, stock up. You can sometimes stretch that sale for several months by buying smart.
- Compare prices. Use your computer to access websites like Jimmy’s Deals and Shopbot.com.au, which can help you find the lowest prices. This is especially true for more expensive items.
Energy Saving Tips
- Turn off the lights when you leave a room. This is easy to do and it will pay off in lower bills.
- Lower the shades on the north side of your house. Keeping the sun out will help your home stay cooler, reducing your costs. Once the sun has gone down, open the windows on either side of your house and let the cross breeze cool you naturally.
- Purchase energy efficient appliances. If you have to replace appliances, look for ones that use less energy. Refrigerators and washers can really drain your bank account; spending a little more when you make the purchase will more than pay you back over the life of the appliance.
