Jimmy’s Fuel saving tips
Everywhere you turn, the costs of fuel and energy are rising. It’s enough to make you want to live in a cave. Here are a few fuel saving tips and energy savings tips to help you control costs and keep your sanity.
Make one trip and one trip only. This is one of the biggest fuel savings tips of all. If you can combine trips you’ll not only save petrol, but your own valuable time and energy. Keep a list of everything you need and try to do everything in one outing. It’s even better if you can combine a trip with a friend or neighbour and only use one vehicle.
Energy savings tips for the home, include turning out the lights when you’re away, lowering the shades on the north side of your home to keep things cooler and hanging out laundry to dry on warm days.
Fuel saving tips for your home can include turning the furnace down in the winter and putting on a jumper. In the summer, raise the thermostat to 23 or 24 degrees to keep the air conditioning at a minimum. As soon as the outside air starts to cool, open up windows on opposite sides of the house and let a cross breeze cool you down without using any electricity at all.
The beauty of these fuel savings tips is that they really don’t require much of a change in your lifestyle. Little things do make a difference and implementing a few energy savings tips, like washing in cool water or keeping the sun off your refrigerator and freezer, can make a big difference to your bills.
Hypermiling is another one of the fuel saving tips that’s becoming more popular. It involves squeezing every last bit of energy out of the petrol or diesel in your vehicle. Coasting down hills, not idling, driving conservatively and shutting the car off during waits, are all fuel savings tips that people have employed to get fabulous fuel savings. This does take a re-learning of some habits, but can be well worth it.
